Sirigu sees it as an honor being the vice-Buffon and plans to always be ready should he be called upon.
Highly likely to be selected as Buffon’s back-up at the upcoming EURO, Salvatore Sirigu addressed the media today in a press conference at Coverciano:
On possibly being the sole representative from PSG on the squad:
I hope to not be the only one because Thiago’s experience will be very useful. I do not know how fit he is but he has all the desire to be at the EURO.
On his role after a year of limited pitch time:
I think it is fundamental for me to do what I have done up to now. I haven’t played much but I always had to be ready. I have to always try to remain focused. That is how it was at PSG and I hope it will be like that if I am called for the National Team.
On his future:
I think that when you go through the type of year I had, the priority will go to other issues. I think for myself and for other goalkeepers to push aside the certainty that is Buffon is almost impossible but I am very happy with what I have done for the National Team. When I think of this journey, the honor of having played with Buffon will be greater than anything else. When you are in the National Team, it is important to play for a goalkeeper, it is different.
