Giovinco addressed the media after his side’s loss to the New York Red Bulls regarding his future with the Italian national team.
Antonio Conte raised hell by excluding Sebastian Giovinco this past week which resulted in a whirlwind of condemnation on the Italy coach. The MLS MVP simply ‘knew the risks of playing in a lesser league’ and thus was not called to the Azzurri.
IFD had the opportunity to speak with the Atomic Ant several times in the 2016 season, and the question regarding whether Conte had called him always had the same reply, “he hasn’t called”.
“Now I have to rightfully look ahead and that says I will play in Toronto and we push forward. Did I expect to be selected for this Euro? I can say that in this last period I wasn’t very confident, but I focused on continuing to work and I will do more so that I can return to the national team as quickly as possible. Did I hear from Conte? No, I didn’t hear from him. I knew it was a risk to come here, but I woukd make the same choice, continuing this way. For me the national team isn’t a closed chapter”
