After Antonio Conte announced his final 23-man roster ahead of Euro 2016, Gianluigi Buffon spoke on live TV.
In a live show on RAI 1, Buffon spoke about his side’s job over the next month or so. He said,:
“We have a great responsibility on our hands when representing our nation. Football drives the country forward. We’ve won four World Cups and are a historic team. Even if we aren’t going through the best of moments, these are the times where we emerge and surprise people.”
On going down to Serie B, Buffon said,:
“It was an occasion for me and for those who stayed to show with facts and not words how loyal we are.”
On the World Cup won in 2006, the legendary shot-stopper said,:
“I don’t have too many good memories from that night. The tension is so high that you don’t get to enjoy the beauty of the night. However, the pictures make me feel a lot of emotions. Nothing can eclipse a World Cup win.”
Buffon then touched upon his time with Parma,:
“When I played there, I felt like a superhero. Now I feel like a normal person. It’s important to have a balance and knowing your own limits and defects.”
The Italian keeper concluded the interview by talking about his debut with the Azzurri. He said,:
“If there was one game that I didn’t want to play in, it was that one given the conditions and the importance of it. I couldn’t wait for the game to finish. In that moment, I thought I could have gone a long way with just talent. However, that’s not the case. On the field, you need hunger. Luck helps at times but hunger and desire is a fundamental ingredient for success.”
