On Saturday, Milan fell late to Juventus 1-0 as Alvaro Morata delivered the decisive goal to help the Bianconeri complete the domestic double.
Here is how we rated the Milan players in their loss to Juventus:
Donnarumma (MOTM- 7.5): The teenager was forced into making several key saves, and he did just that. Bailed out Montolivo in extra-time. Emotionally, Donnarumma was not fazed by the stage tonight in Rome.
De Sciglio (6.5): The young fullback impressed today up and down the pitch. De Sciglio was providing on the attacking end with his crosses, while also making the necessary trek back to limit the danger on the counter.
Zapata (6.0): The Colombian did his job tonight. He wasn’t an impenetrable force but cleared his lines and contributed to the effort in the back to keep Juventus at bay.
Romagnoli (6.5): The young centre-half made his usual start in the back and was up for the physical battles with Mario Mandzukic. At times, he seemed to lose his control on challenges, but his energy and unwillingness to back down proved valuable.
Calabria (7.0): Despite his crosses lacking, the teenager did not let the emotions impact his performance. Calabria was blazing up and down the pitch, playing a full 120 and never folded. A very promising performance from the former Milan Primavera defender.
Poli (6.0): Starting alongside Montolivo and Kucka in a three-man setup, Poli did what he was asked: fight and win the ball. If you were expecting the former Sampdoria man to be a standout, shame on you. He punched his time card, gave Brocchi the hard-fought minutes and won a few battles in the midfield.
Kucka (5.5): Shockingly, Poli wasn’t the worst in the midfield today. Kucka was a bit of a let down in the loss tonight. The Slovakian did make some good runs, and did show his tank-like qualities in the middle of the park, but most expected Kucka to have a bit more of an impact in this one.
Montolivo (6.5): The Milan captain did play well today, despite a few errant passes and a blunder in the back that forced Donnarumma into bailing him out. Montolivo did his all to ignite the traveling Milan crowd to Rome and at times, we saw glimpses of how good he can be when he is in fact on his game.
Bonaventura (6.5): Out on the left, Bonaventura was very active, cutting in onto his right foot and taking on Juventus defenders. Executed a few nice dribbles and won a few fouls in the attacking end for Milan. All in all, Jack showed up to play for his club.
Bacca (5.5): The Colombian worked and worked to link play with Honda and Jack, but his first touch let him down a few times. Bacca relies heavily on the service from his midfield, but today he needed to do a bit more to get on the ball, especially in a cup final.
Honda (5.5): Some questionable crosses by the Japanese international in this one. Oddly used the outside of his foot while Milan were trying to break the deadlock late. As a result, the cross was denied, which was a trend today in that department. A suspect day from Honda out on the right.
Substitutes
Niang (5.0): Came on for Poli in the 84th minute. Apparent that he wasn’t fully fit for this magnitude of a match but he put in the effort.
Mauri (5.5): Relieved Montolivo in the 108th minute and nearly scored the tying goal late in this one. Overall, it was tough to gauge his performance as he did not get on the ball much.
Balotelli (n/a): The player was not on the pitch long enough to make an assessment.
