Today, Lorenzo Tonelli, Marco Benassi, Davide Zappacosta and Danilo Cataldi spoke about their Italy call-ups among other things.
Here’s what Lorenzo Tonelli had to say. Courtesy of vivoazzurro.it,:
“”I’m fully focused on playing for Italy at the moment. Defensively, Conte is a big fan of man-marking rather than adapting depending on the position of the ball. I don’t know what my chances are of making the squad. I’m working hard every day and not thinking too much about it.”
Tonelli went on to say that he’d be more than willing to go to France with a limited role,:
“My expectation for these days was to be able to pick up something from these players who are used to this international setup. I see that Conte is very prepared on a tactical level, there is a lot to learn and a lot to experiment with in terms of new tactical shapes. Would I go to France as a reserve? I’d go as bottle carrier.”
Here’s what Danilo Cataldi had to say,:
“We are working really hard and are doing everything we can to be selected. This is an amazing opportunity for me. I want to be a part of the squad for the Euros even if I have to sit on the bench. There is a lot of talent in Italy as the U-21 side has proved recently. This call-up shows how much i have improved. I will need to improve even more to make the step up to the Italy team.”
The Lazio man is prepared to go to France as a reserve,:
“It already means a lot to be here and to have the opportunity to train alongside great players. I’m looking to learn from everyone. If there was a need for me to be a reserve then I would be happy to be a reserve. I am aware that I don’t have a great chance of going to the European Championship but I will play until the very end to try and make it. It’s very nice to be thought of as among the top 30 Italian players. I hope that my next step will be to play as much as possible next season, score and pick up assists because I am a midfielder of a certain type and I can’t make a quantum leap without doing this.”
Here’s what Marco Benassi had to say,:
“We are settling into the team well and we want to prove that we deserve a place in the final squad. I’m grateful to Torino as they stuck by me when I made mistakes and believed in me. I am here at the moment and I will give my all to honor the Azzurri shirt in the best of ways.”
Here’s what Davide Zappacosta had to say,:
“I’m training with these world class players and learning a lot. It is a dream come true and I will be ready if selected. I want to take this chance as i don’t know how many I’m going to get. I’m doing everything i can to play for Italy.”
The former U-21 international spoke about the possibility of seeing Giampiero Ventura as the Italy boss,:
“Given that this is rightly a decision for president Tavecchio, I can only say that Ventura is an excellent coach. He knows how to transmit great intensity into the side. Conte wants to do well and his intensity in training stuck me. It is on us to give our all to show that we are at the same standard as the rest of the group. I want to convince him to have faith in me.”
