It’s finally confirmed: Marcelo Bielsa will be the Lazio coach for the 2016/17 season.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport reports, the deal will be announced in a few hours time, but the “Argentinian mission” of Lazio’s Sporting Director Armando Calveri can be considered as a success: there is an agreement between “El Loco” and the biancocelesti that will give the bench to the 60-year old ex-Olympique Marseille man.
It took a few nights to hammer out all the details, Claudio Lotito the Lazio president, was constantly updated by phone. In the end, Calveri will return in Italy with the contract, signed by Bielsa, and that will be signed also by Lotito. Between the Argentinian and Lazio there won’t be a two-year deal (like Lotito wanted), rather just a single season one, however there will be a renewal option for the 2017/18 season (it was Bielsa’s will to have this kind of contract). The Argentinian will earn $3,2 million (€2,8 million).
This news will make Lazio’ supporters happy, after Claudio Lotito’s failed attempts with Sampaoli first and with Prandelli later.
