Following a 3-0 Napoli victory against Hellas Verona in the Coppa Italia tournament, the Partenopei’s coach, Maurizio Sarri, commented on the match and the team’s plans for the winter mercato.
Sarri went on to say:
“It was important to get a result and to qualify for the next round. We did well to manage the lead in the best possible way. Higuain? He wanted to play and I wanted to give a signal to everyone that this was an important match. Mertens has played four of four games after his injury and two as a starter. The Serie A isn’t the only thing that counts; whoever doesn’t play more in the Serie A can’t say that they aren’t up to standards. Strinic’s second half was excellent and he will be useful for the rest of the season. I also liked Valdifiori today, he is growing.”
When asked about the winter mercato plans:
“I have not requested anything from the club; they will do what they can do. If there are no reinforcements we will raise both Strinic’s and Maggio’s levels and they are already adapting. Even Chalobah is improving at the tactical level. I do my job, and if the club wants more then they will move to find reinforcements.”
