After the 2-0 Coppa Italia victory against Sampdoria, Milan manager Siniša Mihajlović spoke to Milan Channel about the result
Mihajlović to the media in the post-match conference (via acmilan.com):
“We simply had to win tonight and we achieved what we came here to do. It was a big chance and we took it. The run to the final is certainly within our reach and tonight’s win is a confidence boost for our league campaign too….Tonight, we should have sealed the win earlier, but I am pleased with the team. We gave away very little and were solid. It’s a big win and I hope it gives us more self-confidence and enthusiasm.”
On playing at The Marassi:
“The Marassi is a tough ground to play at and the team approached the match well. We stuck to our game plan. Samp have players that can make it hard, but the lads deserved this win….The Marassi has been like a second-home to me. It’s always nice to come back. I hoped to come back here with both sides in better shape, but I am certain Montella will do a great job from now until the end of the season”
Mihajlović talking about Bertolacci:
“Bertolacci? It was not easy for him to start tonight after such a long time out and he showed his abilities. Let’s hope his injury woes are now behind him. He can keep getting better though and he has plenty of room for improvement.”
On the road ahead in the Coppa Italia and Serie A:
“Reaching the final certainly isn’t impossible and would give a different meaning to the season. Tonight’s win should give us more confidence and shows that we never give in.”
“Let’s enjoy this win and then as of tomorrow set our sights on Frosinone. We have the quality to win at Frosinone. We have drawn the past two matches, but we deserved to win. We had 35 shots on goal. We need to be more effective when in possession though. If we do that, we will certainly start to win more matches.”
