Legendary Italian striker and 2006 World Cup winner Luca Toni has announced today that he will be retiring come the end of the season.
Luca Toni, currently playing for Serie A side Hellas Verona, has finally decided to hang up his boots. After playing in the Italian Lega Pro, Serie B, Serie A, Bundesliga and United Arab Emirates, the 38 year old will be playing his final season at relegation doomed Hellas Verona.
Luca Toni, the journey man he was, played 22 seasons of top class football for the likes of Modena, Empoli, Fiorenzuola, Lodigiani, Treviso, Vicenza, Brescia, Palermo, Fiorentina, Roma, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Al Nasr and finally Hellas Verona. Toni scored a grand total of 267 goals in his career, and 156 of those were for Serie A clubs.
Luca Toni also had a decorated National Team career, having played for the Italian National Team from 2004-2009, playing 47 games and scoring 16 goals. Arguably, the 2 most important goals Toni scored for La Nazionale were against Ukraine in the 2006 World Cup Quarter-Finals.
