After the sale of Miralem Pjanic to Juventus, the Romans are searching to plug the gap in the midfield.
Newcastle’s relegation to the Championship in England can’t be placed on the shoulders of Georgino Wijnaldum, who had a modest campaign from the midfield for the Magpies.
However, Roma are studying the profile of the Dutchman and are looking for a way they can bring in the 25 year old attacking midfielder.
According to Sky, the Giallorossi are set to offer the English side a loan to buy offer with a very high buy out clause. This means that Roma will be taking on little upfront risk, but will have to pay out if they decide to keep the Netherlands international.
A very experienced player, Wijnaldum has 30 senior international caps to his name and also six goals. He signed last summer from PSV for an estimated €20 million. Last season he played every Premier League game with the black and white’s, scoring 11 goals.
As a part of the relegation, Rafa Benitez’s Newscastle will have to reorganize and could look to offload Wijnaldum’s salary for the 2016/17 campaign.
