Tomorrow is a huge day for Roma in Champions League. With a win they advance to the round of 16, they can also advance with a draw if Barcelona does them a favour versus Leverkusen.
What will it mean if Roma lose?
Fans will want Rudi Garcia’s immediate sacking, but it will also represent a huge loss financially, €25 Million minimum.
Courtesy of calcio & finanza, here is a breakdown of what Roma stand to gain (minimum) moving on to the round of 16.
Prize money for advancing to the next round: €5.5 M
Assuming a draw vs BATE: €0.5M
Division of “pool”money of €50M with Juventus:
Assuming worst case scenario Roma loses in the round of 16 and Juventus win the Champions League:
Roma will get €19M of the €50M, or 38%, while Juventus gets €31 or 62%
Therefore 5.5 + 0.5 + 19 = €25M
Under a scenario where both Roma and Juventus lose in the round of 16, Roma stands to gain:
5.5 + 0.5 + (50 X 50% = 25) = €31M
Needless to say, there stakes are high for Roma on Wednesday, a match you won’t want to miss.
