Leonardo Bonucci discussed his fellow defenders and their capabilities.
Speaking to UEFA.com, Bonucci rebuffed the notion that they are the premier defense in the world.
“Beh, I’m not the one to say if we’re the best defense in the world or not, but certainly the defense includes the whole team, just like the attackers.
“Our work is made easier by the fact that our attacks, like Conte asks them to, are the first to help out in the defensive phase. Pressing the opposing defenders all over the whole field. It permits us to be more aggressive and read their play.
“We know perfection having played many years together at Juventus, and when we come to the national team we don’t test out too many defensive schemes.
“Giorgio [Chiellini] and Andrea [Barzagli] are two great champions. They know to be very aggressive when we play with 3 at the back, however my role is to cover their sixes when they press up on the attacking adversaries. They are two bulldogs, certainly among the best defenders in the world.”
