The Azzurri dispatched a defensive Finland 2 – 0 in their final tune up game before the Euro.
Sirigu – 6: Had absolutely nothing to do all night long.
Barzagli – 6: Played as a fullback most the night and created problems and provided defensive certainties. Looks sharp and ready for the Euro.
Bonucci – 6: Another solid performance from the 29 year old, his passing was solid tonight as he looked at times to be more of a holding midfielder rather than a defender.
Chiellini – 6.5: Good performance from the captain, but like the rest of the defensive block, they were untested.
Candreva – 7: Looks sharp heading into France, earned a penalty and converted the penalty. He also delivered the pinpoint cross which De Rossi headed home for Italy’s second.
Parolo – 6.5: Solid, but not clinical. Didn’t make any mistakes but also not exactly the kind of performance that would’ve earned him a spot years ago.
Thiago Motta – 6: He completes a lot of passes, a large portion of which are negative. But he was too slow to unlock Finland’s deep lying approach. He’s a good backup to De Rossi heading into France.
Giaccherini – 5.5: Works hard, as always but didn’t bring much to the table, especially on set pieces.
El Shaarawy – 5.5: I’m not doubting his abilities, but you can’t help but feel he’s being misused. The wing role in the 3-5-2 isn’t natural for him, and for El Shaarawy’s offensive abilities, you’d prefer he was up top.
Zaza – 6.5: He never stops running, working and lurking. Caused all sorts of problems with his movement tonight and never gave the Finnish defenders a moments rest. Not a lot of service all night long for him to score with, but that could come in France.
Immobile – 5: Not a good performance, looked disjointed and uncomfortable. He had one or two shots on target but besides that it was a pretty unconvincing performance that he will not look back on with fondness.
Off the bench
De Rossi – 8: Night and day difference when he was brought on. Instantly unlocked the Finnish defense and scored a goal himself. In years past, there was a playmaking conundrum between De Rossi and Pirlo, now it’s his team and the Azzurri’s outcome is on his shoulders.
Sturaro – 6: Made his debut, looked solid but nothing much more to add. A solid 25 minutes nothing more nothing less.
Bernardeschi – 5.5: Flashes of what can be, but still pretty unconvincing from the Fiorentina midfielder. A future superstar, but today wasn’t his day.
Florenzi – 6: Replaced a tiring El Shaarawy, didn’t add much but didn’t detract anything either.
