Italy overcome a stubborn Sweden 1-0 to advance to the Round of 16
Buffon – 6: Didn’t have anything to do all day. Faced no shots on target
Barzagli – 7: Tasked with dealing Guidetti today, and conceded nothing. Good game from the 35 year old veteran.
Bonucci – 6: Solid game from Bonucci defensively, but just couldn’t find the long ball pass to open up Sweden.
Chiellini – 8: Ibra-who? Turning out to be a great start to the tournament for Chiellini as he completely neutralized both Ibra and Lukaku. His quick throw in led to the winning goal as well.
Candreva -6: Lacked the magic he had against Belgium, but delivered several good crosses. Also did well defending but otherwise an uneventful night.
Giaccherini – 5.5: Nothing major from Il Giak, but nevertheless he ran like a madman the whole night. A slew of misplaced passes dropped his rating down significantly.
De Rossi – 5: He cannot hang on to the ball. Conte did well to take him off the field in the second half as he was contributing very little offensively.
Parolo – 5: Relatively a ghost on the pitch today. He banged an effort off the crossbar but that’s about the only notable contribution he made all match.
Florenzi – 5: Another one of the ghost brigade today. He controlled several long passes well and looked composed defensively. But again, nothing of note going forward.
Pelle – 4: Woeful from the Southampton man today. Didn’t look remotely close to fit and didn’t last an hour on the pitch. Nothing was clicking today.
Eder – 6.5: When he runs with the ball at the defense he can make things happen. He scored the winning goal thanks to some heads up play on a throw in. If he receives the ball running towards goal, he’ll cause some problems.
Substitutions
Zaza – 5.5: More dangerous than Pelle, but still didn’t threaten the Swedish goal and had 30 minutes to do so.
Thiago Motta – 6: Looked composed in his cameo, but wasn’t really on the pitch long enough to make an impact.
Sturaro – N/A: Didn’t play long enough to be evaluated.
