Speaking to the press on the back of Italy’s 1-0 win over Sweden, Giaccherini explained his feelings on qualifying to the Round of 16.
“We’ve reached the objective, we wanted to make it to the Round of 16 with all of our strength and we’ve got there a day in advance. We’ve qualified with a game to go, and many didn’t believe in us.
“We’ve demonstrated to many that this team has balls. Today’s game was much more difficult in terms of the play, we knew that Sweden would send everybody in front of us to close us down there it was difficult to play our game. In the first half we retracted into our own half because we felt the pressure of the game, in the second half we came out,” Giaccherini explained to Sky.
Italy will wrap up group play against Ireland before heading into the Round of 16.
