Italy scored a late goal courtesy of Eder to defeat Sweden 1-0 on Friday afternoon and qualify for the knockout stages of the Euro 2016 tournament.
Simone Zaza, who came on as a substitute for Graziano Pelle, said he was glad he contributed to the goal, and shared his thoughts with Rai Sport afterwards.
Zaza on the match result: “It was not a pretty game, but the goal was to win. We got the three points that we needed to qualify and we are satisfied despite not playing the match at the highest level.”
Zaza on if there were nerves before the match: “I don’t think so. Personally, I had no anxiety about this match. The fact that they went at a thousand miles-per-hour and were very physical left us a bit discombobulated.”
“I am especially pleased to have made my debut in this European Championship,” Zaza said when asked about his content with his performance. “I’m happy to have contributed to the action of the goal.”
Zaza then spoke about Italy’s next match against Ireland:
“We are confident that we will do as we did this match.”
