Lazio are taking steps to renovate the team following this season’s Serie A and European disaster.
Sporting director Igli Tare is flying to Lisbon to close negotiations for 30 year old centerback Jardel of Benfica. The Portuguese are asking for €9 million but Tare and co. think that figure is well too high and will work towards a €6.5 plus base fee plus bonus package to cut down the distance on the two sides, according to Radiosei.
Jardel is known as a versatile defender and is well experienced in European play. Last season, he even scored 3 goals in 30 league appearances, and played in 9 of Benfica’s UEFA Champions League matches.
The Brazil born centerback has been a journeyman of sorts throughout his career, playing for a slew of Brazilian clubs before heading to Estoril in 2009, and eventually to Benfica in January 2011.
