Three things that we learned about Juventus in this Derby D’Italia

The bianconeri come away with just a single point in an insipid match at the Giuseppe Meazza in San Siro. Here is what we have drawn from the Old Lady’s performance:

3. Chemistry

In previous games we had written about how Juventus seemed to have lost their game play identity – courtesy of the loss of Pirlo, Vidal and with Marchisio’s injury. Game play had improved markedly with the introduction of the chameleon-like 3-5-2 formation and –  mostly – with the return of seasoned midfielders like Khedira.

Whereas game play was rushed, Juventus has slowed down the pace, become more “thoughtful”. This trend continued in today’s Derby D’Italia, although it was marked with many unforced errors in the first half which can be chalked up to the relative inexperience on this Juventus vis-à-vis last year’s.

The player that most personified the Juventus of this moment was Simone Zaza. An A+ in effort, zero to show for it. In the first half, after blowing a ball into the upper deck, he had a ball fall on his feet alone on goal against Handanovic but got lost on the way.

We’re left with the impression that until Marchisio and Khedira gain full fitness the Juventus that their fans expect will not be seen
