Much has been talked about over Juventus’ less than desirable start to the season. Losses to Udinese, Roma and Napoli in addition to draws against Frosinone and Chievo have definitely not been a part of Allegri’s plan, but there is hope on the horizon.
Today’s draw in the Derby d’Italia away at the San Siro vs Inter showed that the old Juventus is still capable of gleaming through. The heaps of injuries that the Bianconeri have suffered have without a doubt put a damper on the hopes of a quick turnaround, but Khedira and Marchisio’s returns have seemingly fired the engine back up in the midfield.
Inter have been on fire this season, dominating possession, causing the opposition difficulties with their illustrious attack, featuring Perisic, Icardi and Jovetic. But in tonight’s 0-0 draw with Juventus, something new emerged. Inter were dominated in possession and some would argue lucky not to go down 2-0 this evening.
Claudio Marchisio anchored Allegri’s 4-3-3 formation, which is new for the team, and Khedira was able to provide an extra link in the attack forward. The 3 man midfield worked well and Marchisio was able to spread the ball well. The renewed aggression from the midfield duo earned themselves both early yellow cards, but the determination from the Italian and German also showed that Inter would not be let in on goal easily.

Much can be written about Barzagli’s performance as well, the converted rightback was able to dispatch any threat that was leaked through the midfield. In the end, Juve’s goal was only threatened one time, while on the other end Handanovic was scrambling.
There is no ideal formation yet for Max Allegri, but getting the right personnel back will make a big difference in how the Old Lady comes roaring back to life.
