Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon spoke to the media following his side’s draw against Inter and touched upon the result.
The veteran keeper highlighted what Juventus will need to do in order to reenter the Scudetto discussion. He told Mediaset Premium,:
“We can’t commit the mistake of thinking that we are back at the moment. Looking at our results and at the table, we are fourteenth. We are living a good period right now and we have found a certain level of solidity. If we find consistency, we’ll be in the Scudetto race or at least in the top spots.”
On his condition –
“I don’t know my condition right now because the bruise is pretty big. I’m happy that I was able to play the last 65 minutes with a knock. If I am able to play on Wednesday that would be good but if I can’t I won’t mind sitting out because our second goalkeeper is only a second goalkeeper by name. It would be an insult to refer to him as such.”
Allegri said that the team will start winning when the forwards begin to demonstrate Barzagli’s hunger –
“I think that we have a bunch of players with immense potential. It’s also true that these players are young and like every young player they have negative aspects to their game that needs improving. I think that if the older players in this team are able to inspire and play with a certain approach, we will teach them how to become great and the whole team will get younger, as a result.”
The opposition that has impressed you the most –
“From the teams we have played so far, Roma have impressed me the most in terms of style of play, hunger and whole squad in general. Then of course, there’s Napoli that under Sarri have solved their defensive issues. If they are able to continue in the same vein, they will find themselves really high up the table.”
On the team’s performance as a whole –
“We are progressing. I saw some improvements tonight but we want to return as the leaders. We got back some of our top players and slowly, slowly we are starting to understand just how strong we are. Games like this make you feel better but we are still too many points behind to feel comfortable. We are working hard to play to the best of our abilities in Allegri’s formation and reach the top spots in the table by March.”
