Pioli: “It was not a lucky game for us”

Sassuolo snap Lazio’s 3 game winning streak with a 2-1 victory at Mapei.

Lazio were down early following a questionable penalty decision awarded to Sassuolo. Domenico Beradi stepped up to the spot and buried the penalty to give his side the lead. In the 60th minute the home team doubled their lead with a goal by Simone Missiroli, however Lazio would cut that lead in half a few minutes later through Felipe Anderson. Unfortunately the capital club would not be able to score again.

Lazio manager Stefano Pioli was interviewed by Premium Sport following the match where he provided his account of the game.

“We gave them the game with great generosity, I do not agree that Sassuolo deserved the lead in the first half.”

“The team had faith until the end, it was not a lucky game for us.”

Pioli was also asked about the penalty that was given to Sassuolo, to which he replied:

“There is a difference between simulation and goal scoring, the images are clear. I do not think there was contact, sorry. We stayed in the game, there was a chance to tie the game. We can see that today was not a lucky day.”

Lazio will look to change their luck in their Europa League fixture on October 22nd at home against Rosenborg before hosting Torino in the Serie A on October 25th.
