Major Changes To Be Expected In Italy’s Player Selection Ahead Of Ireland Clash

The Azzurri  CT could alter his formation and bring in array of new faces to conclude their final Group Stage game.

After two consecutive victories in the Group Stage (a first for Italy since Euro 2000) and qualification guaranteed for the Knockout Round, Antonio Conte will likely modify his set-up for the third and final game against the Republic of Ireland.

Italy will take the field again on Wednesday, June 22nd in Lille and the public could expect a host of changes to be made in the Starting XI, with a reported nine players to be rotated, according to TMW. Only Andrea Barzagli and Alessandro Florenzi should remain. The reason behind both staying put is that Barzagli has yet to pick up a yellow card while Florenzi had only featured in the Sweden match.

Gianluigi Buffon has been guarding the net the first two games, conceding not a single goal however Salvatore Sirigu could be called up to give the legendary portiere a rest ahead of the next round. Should Sirigu be given the nod, his defensive guard could feature Darmian and Ogbonna along with Barzagli, as both Chiellini and Bonucci could be offered the evening off.

The midfield is where a few highly-anticipated names could finally take the pitch. Despite the probability of Florenzi keeping his spot on the right Bernardeschi could still replace him on the wing. He would be partnered by Mattia De Sciglio who would enter on the left. If Conte chooses to go with a 3-4-3 formation, De Sciglio and Bernardeschi would be joined by Sturaro and Motta in the middle of the park. At the top, a dynamic attacking trio of El Shaarawy, Immobile and Insigne would lead line. If Conte sticks with his favored 3-5-2, only one of El Shaarawy or Insigne would be selected to occupy the wing. Both Zaza and Immobile would be the offensive duo trusted to breakdown the Irish backline.
