Lazio beat St. Etienne 3-2 in the Europa League on a cool Roman night Thursday evening at the Stadio Olimpico. Although they won, they lost the services of Mauricio due to injury.
Mauricio was taken out of the game at the end of the first half after getting an elbow to the face. Tests have come back and determined the Brazilian has picked up a compound fracture to his nose. The ex Sporting Lisbon defender was scheduled to have surgery done immediately on his nose which would keep him out for some time, however, the defender has surprised everyone.
“Unfortunately, I had to come off during the match. In the hospital, the situation was pretty obvious: I broke my nose in two places. They asked me if I wanted to have surgery immediately, leaving me out of the game for a month. I’ve chosen not to have surgery. I want to be with the team. I want to work hard and come back even stronger. I feel good so I’ll wear the mask on my face, but I’ll be here to fight with my teammates for Lazio!
